What we remove

Pipe lagging, sprayed insulation and other loose asbestos need a different registration, which we don't hold. If we find any, we'll tell you and refer you on.

What affects the price

Your quote is itemised, so you can see where the money goes: the inspection authority's fee, removal and disposal per square metre, and the new roof if you need one. On small roofs the inspection authority's fee is a bigger share of the total.

Commercial and large roofs

Factory and warehouse roofs are removed in sections around your operations, with the new roof following close behind, so the building is open for as little time as possible. Body corporates get itemised quotes that trustees can table as they stand.

Questions we get asked

How much does asbestos roof removal cost?

Every roof is priced on its own, so we give you a free estimate within 24 hours and a written, itemised quote after a site visit. The quote is made up of the approved inspection authority's fee for the plan of work, air monitoring and clearance certificate; the removal and sealed disposal, priced per square metre; and the new roof, if you need one. Access, height, pitch and the number of gutters and fittings also affect the price.

Can I take off a few asbestos sheets myself?

Removing less than 10 square metres of asbestos cement is Type 1 work under the regulations: it doesn't need a registered contractor, but it can't be repeated on the same site within six months. Duties still apply: written notification seven days ahead, a risk assessment, a demarcated area, respiratory protection, no power tools and disposal at a designated site. This is general information, not legal advice.

Where does removed asbestos go?

To a disposal site designated for asbestos waste. The sheets are sealed in containers that prevent exposure, labelled and transported in marked vehicles, and the site issues a disposal certificate, which you keep. Asbestos may never be sold, reused or recycled, or stored on site for longer than three months.

How long does asbestos roof removal take?

It depends on the size of the roof, access and height, the condition of the sheets and the weather. The plan of work and the Department notice must also be in place at least seven days before work starts. Your quote includes a planned timeline.

Can people stay in the building during the removal?

It depends on the site, so we agree it with you before the plan of work is signed. The work area becomes a regulated asbestos area that nobody enters without respiratory protection, and the plan sets out which parts of the building are affected and when. On larger buildings we work in sections where that's practical.
