How legal asbestos removal works in Cape Town
Asbestos removal is regulated work. After you accept our quote, an approved inspection authority draws up the plan of work, the Department is notified seven days ahead, and we remove the asbestos inside a sealed-off area. It goes to a designated disposal site, and the authority issues the clearance certificate before the new roof goes on.
Indi Maintenance Services (Pty) Ltd, Registered Asbestos Contractor (Type 2), certificate 2025RAC/CI-180, valid until 26 August 2028.

Questions we get asked
What is an asbestos clearance certificate?
It is the written declaration the approved inspection authority issues after the work, once it has inspected the area, taken air samples and confirmed that all asbestos waste has gone. As the client, you are required to obtain it, so keep it with the plan of work and disposal certificate.
Why does the work only start seven days after the quote is accepted?
The regulations require the Department of Employment and Labour to be notified in writing at least seven days before asbestos work starts. The plan of work must also be compiled and signed first. We use that week to schedule the crew, the inspection authority and the disposal.
Who appoints the approved inspection authority?
The client appoints the inspection authority in writing, but you don't have to find one yourself. We arrange it as part of the job, and its fee is shown as its own line on your quote.
How long should I keep the asbestos documents?
Employers must keep disposal and clearance certificates for at least 50 years. Homeowners and body corporates should keep them too: they show buyers, tenants and future contractors that the asbestos was removed legally.
Do I need to be on site during the work?
No. You co-sign the plan of work beforehand and we agree access with you. Once the regulated area is set up, only the crew and the inspection authority may enter it.
